Further figures on microchip production:
- Water consumption in the chip industry in Taiwan amounted to around 63 million tons in 2019.
- This led to protests from farmers when Taiwan was hit by
the worst drought in half a century. - In the USA, a single steel mill in Arizona produced almost 15,000 tons of hazardous waste in the first three months of this year.
- In addition, the factory used around 900 million gallons of fresh water, which could have filled 1,400 Olympic swimming pools, and 550 million kilowatt hours of electricity.
